Whilst the Lappa Valley Railway between Truro and Newquay in Cornwall is getting ready for full-time opening, it still has a special winter entry price of just £10 per person
Until 24th March, the railway is open every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
There are two railways to enjoy, and if the weather turns cold, The Engine Shed is an ideal escape with indoor and outdoor play area, adventure golf course, as well as delicious food and drink.
The £10 ticket offers remarkable value as all activities are included in the admission price, in other words, pay once, play all day.
Easter Events
Seven-day opening of the railway will resume on Good Friday, 29 March, and over the Easter weekend there will be Lappa Valley duck racing, an Easter Quiz, and the chance to sit inside the cab of a steam locomotive.
Last year, the railway made a major investment of over £500,000 in its first new locomotive and carriages for 50 years, ready to celebrate its Golden Anniversary this year.
Train builder Alan Keef Limited of Lea near Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire designed and built a new state-of-the-art bogie diesel locomotive, five passenger carriages, and a buggy wagon to improve accessibility and efficiency.
That was Lappa Valley’s first new locomotive for its main 15-inch gauge line since it took delivery of its first locomotive, Zebedee, in 1974. It is fitted with a very-economical diesel engine that has far lower emissions compared with current diesel options.
With 100 seats and low-floor access, the new carriages significantly increased the number of wheelchair users that could be accommodated on each trip. They are fitted with enhanced safety features, such as an emergency passenger communication system and permanent colour-changing lighting.
Last year, the railway won a silver award at in the South West Tourism Awards.
