The winners of the Cheshire Best Kept Stations Awards have been announced, with managed stations coming out on top in a number of awards.

The Cheshire Best Kept Station went to and comes off the back of them being praised by the Royal Horticultural Society back in October.

Brinnington Station also picked up Best Staffed Station at the awards, which were presented by Professor Paul Salveson MBE last week.

Other awards for Northern stations were Best Unstaffed Station, which went to Greenbank, won the In Bloom Award, Disley won the Sustainability Award whilst Goostrey and Romiley won the Art Project Award and King’s Coronation Awards, respectively.

Some regional awards were also handed out, with winning the Cheshire West and Chester Award, Glazebrook winning the Halton and Warrington Award and Heaton Chapel winning the TfGM Award.

Marple, Handforth, Hale and all were Highly Commended in their respective areas.

“I’d like to congratulate all my colleagues and the volunteer groups at stations across Cheshire that were recognised at the awards last week.

“Their commitment to excellence in terms of the presentation, operation and overall customer experience of their stations is remarkable and the awards are a great opportunity to highlight their hard work.”

Craig Harrop, regional director for Northern

“What volunteers do is amazing; the passion, commitment, ingenuity, resourcefulness and sheer hard work has improved your stations for passengers, the community, the railway and for yourselves.”

In a rallying call to volunteer groups across the county, he added: “Please keep on doing what you are doing!”

Mark Barker, chair of Cheshire Best Kept Stations
