Lincolnshire rail passengers can save up to 34% with new group ticket

East Midlands Railway (EMR) has added the Barton Line between Barton-upon-Humber and to the lines on which its GroupSave ticket can be used.

The GroupSave ticket provides a reduction of 34% off adult tickets when groups of three to nine people travel together, with up to four children also benefitting from reduced tickets of just £1 each.

Places to visit on the Barton Line

There are many attractions on the Barton Line, including:

  • Waters’ Edge Country Park and Visitor Centre, where there are 110 acres of country park and a nature reserve with plenty to see and do for everybody.
  • Thornton Abbey and Gatehouse, which is England’s largest and one of its finest fortified gatehouses from the time when it was one of Britain’s richest Augustinian abbeys.
  • & Cleethorpes Seaside Resort is an area made for walking, cycling, and horse riding, with miles of breathtaking scenery from coastal paths to the rolling Wolds, as well as the fishing heritage museum.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Transport at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “Expanding the GroupSave ticket to the Barton line is a fantastic initiative, making public transport cheaper and more accessible for all.

“The Barton Line stops in many places throughout North East Lincolnshire, including , Stallingborough, , Great Coates, Grimsby, and Cleethorpes, allowing groups to visit their friends and family at a cheaper cost.”

Cllr Tim Mitchell, cabinet member for connectivity at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “This saving on the Barton Line is a great opportunity for residents to get out and about to visit North Lincolnshire’s amazing tourist attractions.

“We are committed to improving transport links in North Lincolnshire. This new ticket type means adults and children can make a brilliant saving when travelling around the Barton area.”

Tom Irvin, Chair of the Friends of the Barton Line group, said: “We welcome the introduction of GroupSave fares. They will make rail travel on the Barton Line more competitive for small groups and especially families and hopefully the first of many initiatives to make rail travel more affordable.”

Simon Pready, Commercial Director for East Midlands Railway, said: “We are pleased to now be able to offer the GroupSave ticket to Barton Line customers. It offers a great discount and are the ideal way to save money when travelling together to see some of the enjoyable attractions on the route.”
