Tyseley based GWR Castle No. 5043 ‘Earl of Mount Edgcumbe’ will be hauling The Shap Mountaineer this Saturday, 16th March 2024.
Departing Birmingham New Street behind a diesel locomotive at 06:56, the tour will pass through Wolverhampton (07:14), Stafford (07:42), Crewe (08:16), Warrington Bank Quay (08:49), Preston (09:21) and Carnforth North Junction at 09:56, where 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe will take over the train.
Departing Carnforth North Junction at 10:35, the locomotive will pass through Oxenholme Lake District (10:51), Penrith North Lakes (11:31) and Carlisle at 12.05.
After time in Carlisle, the locomotive will depart at 15:05 and will pass through Oxenholme Lake District (16:05), Lancaster (17:05), Preston (Lancs) (17:30), Wigan North Western (17:54), Warrington Bank Quay (18:05), and Crewe at 18:52.
Here, a diesel locomotive will take over the train (note: at the time of writing, it is unclear whether 5043 will remain in the consist for the next stage of the journey. However, there are no paths between Crewe and Tyseley, pointing towards the diesel locomotive hauling the train and 5043 back to Birmingham)
Departing Crewe at 19:38, the train will pass through Stafford (20:04), Penkridge (20:19), Wolverhampton (20:48) and Birmingham New Street at 21:25.
