With the next round of train strikes on the horizon, East Midlands Railway are notifying customers of the service changes that they will be implementing throughout the 6-days of action between Thursday 4 and Tuesday, April 9.

The strikes will affect 18 separate train companies nationally in different ways on different days, so do check with your train operator before you travel.

There will be no EMR trains running at all on Friday 5th April as members of ASLEF, the train drivers’ union, walk out on strike.

There will also be an overtime ban undertaken by members of the ASLEF Union on April 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th & 9th. Trains running on these days may be subject to amended services or last-minute cancellations.

Overview of expected EMR Services

Thursday 4th April: A normal service will run on the EMR network, with the possibility of trains being amended or even cancelled at short notice.

Friday 5th April: No EMR trains will be running across its full network.

Saturday 6th April: EMR train services resume, but may be subject to last-minute amended services and cancellation.

On Saturday, 6 April, EMR will be operating an amended timetable between Liverpool Lime Street and Sheffield. This is to better accommodate the number of customers it is expecting to use this route – as strike action will affect other train operating companies that normally operate on it. This will mean a change to the route’s normal stopping pattern and customers are advised to check their full journey, including first and last trains, before travelling.

The line from Newark Castle / Derby and Crewe will be closed for engineering works, no trains will be running on this route.

EMR trains will be running to an amended timetable and a different route between Liverpool Lime Street and Sheffield, these trains are expected to be very busy, as other train operators in the Manchester and Liverpool areas go on strike, with customers expecting to see longer journey times.

EMR trains will be only calling at certain intermediate stations on the route between Liverpool Lime Street and Sheffield. Those stations will be , Chesterfield, Stockport, Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Oxford Road.

Trains will not stop at Dronfield, Ilkeston, Langley Mill, , Warrington Central or Liverpool South Parkway.

Passengers at , Grindleford, Hathersage, , Hope, Edale, , Hazel Grove, or Birchwood, will not be able to travel on the EMR first and last trains of the day, as trains will not be stopping at these stations.

Sunday 7th April: A normal Sunday service will be running, with the possibility of trains being amended or even cancelled at short notice.

The line from Newark Castle / Derby and Crewe will still be closed for engineering works, no trains will be running on this route.

Monday 8th April: A normal service will run on the EMR network, with the possibility of trains being amended or even cancelled at short notice.

Tuesday 9th April: A normal service will run on the EMR network, with the possibility of trains being amended or even cancelled at short notice.

This approach from the ASLEF union means different parts of the network and different train operating companies are affected at different times. Unfortunately, this will mean customers could be impacted by a complicated period of possible delays and disruption. Unfortunately we cannot run any services on Friday, 5 April – while our services will also be busy on either side of this day. Customers are advised to check our website to understand how their whole journey is affected before setting off and can expect possible disruption or late notice cancellations.”
