Yorkshire railway announces new events catering provider

Wensleydale Railway has announced that it has selected The Green Apple Tree to provide catering at its events.

The Green Apple Tree is an Indian restaurant located in the nearby market town of Northallerton in .

The restaurant is owned and run by Sagar Gohil. It opened last year and serves authentic Indian cuisine that it believes “captures the true essence of flavour while supporting the local community”.

The Wensleydale Railway, which appointed its first female driver just last year, is 22 miles long, making it one of the UK’s longest heritage lines. It operates heritage diesel train services between Scruton near Northallerton and on the outskirts of the Dales National Park. It is currently working to restore passenger services from Leyburn to .

The Railway’s restored historic stations have won awards, and provide opportunities for visitors to learn about 1900s railway life and take free guided tours featuring costumed living history interpreters.

Mo Parks, Catering Manager at Wensleydale Railway said: “Sagar, Head Chef Paul Robinson, and their team are passionate about food, quality and service. They have developed new food concepts for us and I’m excited to partner with them and share the new menus with our customers.

“Our first event of 2024 is our Valentine’s Day lunch on Sunday 18 February, featuring a delicious new ‘mezze’ sharing platter. Our afternoon teas will be back too, starting with a Mother’s Day train on 10 March followed by an Easter Sunday train on 31 March.”

Nick Keegan, Fundraising and Marketing Manager at Wensleydale Railway added: “We are continually seeking to improve visitors’ experiences at our railway. Our on-train food events are always very popular with customers. The partnership with The Green Apple Tree will not only complement our traditional afternoon teas service, but also take our food offer to the next level. We are confident that the new menus will be a huge hit with customers.”
