Once again this year, The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) is offering visitors the chance to relive their childhood dreams with its popular Steam Footplate and Diesel Cab Experiences.

During a Steam Footplate Experience, visitors will be taken back to the golden age of steam with a truly unforgettable journey on a heritage steam locomotive.

Participants will be welcomed by footplate crews onto the footplate where they will be able to enjoy the sights, sounds, and smells of the steam age on a return journey between Pickering and Grosmont stations.

Included in the Steam Footplate Experience is a footplate ride on a heritage steam locomotive along a 36-mile return journey between Pickering and Grosmont (18 miles in each direction), and a Souvenir Certificate signed by the locomotive’s driver.

Each experience costs £430 and starts from Pickering Station, departing at 10:55 am and returning to Pickering Station to finish at 1:50 pm.

A Diesel Cab Experience allows visitors to immerse themselves in the workhorses of Britain’s railways by travelling in a cab of a heritage diesel locomotive on a 36-mile return journey between Pickering and Grosmont.

Along the way, they enjoy Yorkshire’s amazing scenery as they travel through the North York Moors National Park.

Diesel Cab Experiences cost £250 and are available on various dates throughout the year. During the Gold Timetable, the experience departs from Pickering at 09:55 and departs from Grosmont at 13.30 on the return journey.

During the Silver Timetable, which operates on Sundays, the Experience operates in the opposite direction, departing from Grosmont at 14:30, and departing from Pickering at 16.00 on the return journey.

A requirement for both experiences is that all participants should be over 16 years old, physically fit, and sign a medical declaration on arrival at Customer Services.
