Keir Hardie Memorial Primary School has seen its playground brightened up as ‘s Railway provides wonderful artwork as part of an ongoing partnership with the school.

The school joined forces with Scotland’s Railways’ Maintenance Depot Unit as part of a pilot scheme which sees Scottish maintenance units matched up with local primary schools.

The partnership has led to a colourful project with award-winning Scottish artist Michael Corr, who has painted a striking mural in the school’s sensory garden.

The project has also seen an outdoor storage container decorated with the school motto ‘Ready, Respectful, Safe’ using bold colours.

Ahead of a design being made, head teacher, Shirley Queen met with Michael to discuss themes which has led to a creative outcome which truly captures the school’s ethos.

The partnership between the school and Scotland’s Railway will be ongoing and also aims to promote safety on the railway alongside participation in STEM activities for the pupils in a bid to inspire the children to think about career possibilities as they grow up.

We’re thrilled to be able to provide such a beautiful piece of art to the exterior of Keir Hardie Memorial Primary.

Michael has created such a clever and intricate design and one that the school will be proud to show off for years to come.

Jeremy Spence, Route Delivery Director for Scotland’s Railway

Thank you to Network rail for providing this great opportunity to Keir Hardie. The pupils and staff have been really excited watching the progress of the murals over the last few weeks.

Michael Corr spoke to us about the designs, using school colours, our Ready, Respectful Safe motto and integrated the school badge shape throughout the bird. The pupils love the designs and they brighten our playground.

Shirley Queen, Head Teacher at Keir Hardie Memorial Primary School
