Good news for fans as Loram UK has signed a new agreement for a Class 37 locomotive.

Loram have agreed with 37418’s owner for a continuous permanent lease until at least Spring 2026.

To celebrate the agreement, Loram UK have, earlier this year, completed corrosion repairs to the locomotive and also out-shopped the locomotive in a new Loram livery.

The decision to outshop the locomotive in the livery was made to reflect the investment and agreement that Loram is making in the operations side of the business.

37418 can be regularly seen working with Track Inspection Saloon ‘Caroline’ as well as working with side-tipper wagons to and from the Loram Depot at Derby.

It is also available for hire and ad-hoc duties in between the rostered work.

  1. I’ve seen this today and yesterday on the Shotts Line near Curriehill / Edinburgh. It’s definitely a more chuggy sound than the usual Class 66s on this line.

  2. This is Great a class 37 in this Loram Red and White livery this is fantastic news in 2024 may Class 37 go on for a long time to come well done and Thankyou

    1. It is nice to see them still earning their keep after more than 60 years. But, we must remember that they’re not secure by anymeans, so we must savour them. Like nearly all BR era locomotives their reliability is atrocious when compared to the ubiquitous Class 66. The only thing which makes 37’s viable in this day and age is their extremely light axle loading of RA5. That’s why the 66’s where bought. BR ero locos suffered from dreadful reliability and availability, they are dirty, inefficient, and underpowered. But, I love them so much, and we mucmst all treasure them even more because of their unstable existence.
