A substantial investment by Northern is poised to bring about a noteworthy enhancement in passenger comfort at 21 stations within its network.
As part of a £1.9 million initiative, the implementation of shelters featuring bench-style seating and wind/rain protection is slated for these stations.
The selected stations for the shelter installations, with some receiving one and others two, include Aspatria, Bare Lane, Belle Vue, Bramley, Chassen Road, Cherry Tree, Clitheroe, Conisbrough, Denby Dale, Humphrey Park, Kildale, Lockwood, Long Preston, Northwich, Pleasington, Ryder Brow, Shipley, Widnes, Woodlesford, Redcar Central and Prudhoe
The installation process, commencing at the end of February, is expected to conclude by early summer. It promises a substantial improvement in the overall passenger experience at these locations.
Craig Harrop, regional director at Northern, said: “Investing in upgrades to stations across the network is extremely important to us. Even small changes like installing a new shelter can have a big impact on our customers using the Northern network”.

Updating shelters is all well n good but now HS2 in North is cancelled we need Colne to Skipton line reopening so we can travel further east to Leeds n beyond. Plus more east to west lines too for the benefit of all. But getting our Colne to Preston trains to 1. Run on time, 2. Cover the whole length n not mysteriously stop half way 3. Ensure automated ticket machines are working 4. Ensure all automated ticket machines can be used by elderly n disabled

The funding for Crossrail was more complicated than saying that the government paid £20bn for it. A lot of the money came from London.
I don’t think anyone is supposed to highlight the amount of money is spent on the different railway projects around London.
