A Derbyshire heritage railway has been running an urgent appeal after a landslip closed part of the railway.

The £30,000 appeal is being run by the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway after the landslip meant it could not run to Duffield station and closed the southern section of the line.

The closure has meant a significant loss in revenue for the railway, but engineers have come up with a plan to realign the track away from the landslip, allowing trains to run again.

229 people have donated to the appeal, with £15,000 being raised so far, and allows the railway to start marking out the path of the realigned railway line.

The railway has been approaching local quarries to ask for donations, as the work will need around 300 tonnes of crushed stone, with a retail price of around £40,000.
