The latest Add-on for 4 allows players to tackle the Berninaline: Tirano – Ospizio Bernina route which has some of the steepest gradients for an adhesion railway in the world.

The new release comes from Partner Programme and includes high altitudes, snowy peaks and some of the steepest gradients on railways throughout the world. The Berninaline: Tirano – Ospizio Bernina route opened in 1908, and is a single-track metre-gauge railway line that winds its way up into the mountains along gradients as steep as 7% (1:14).

The line starts at 429m above sea level and runs from Tirano in Italian town of Tirano to Ospizio Bernina in Switzerland, which at a height of 2253m is the highest point of the line at. Just as in the base game’s Vorarlberg route, this Berninaline includes border crossings and brings the first Italian railway lines into the franchise.

Replicating the real-life railway, the line twists and winds up steep gradients, loops back on itself via the Brusio Spiral Viaduct, passes Lago di Poschiavo and performs several tight curves before it reaches the summit. As well as passing through an impressive natural landscape, just like the real thing the trains pass through towns running along the streets and having to make custom road traffic stops.

The train consists of a Rhaetian Railway (RhB) ABe 8/12 Allegra EMU first introduced in 2009. This is a dual-voltage unit that holds the speed record for metre-gauge railways when in 2009 it recorded 139 km/h (86 mph) during a test run on another railway.

Included in the game are passenger announcements in English, Italian, and German, similar to those included in Rivet Games’ ScotRail Express Add-on from last year, and a number of unique collectables to find such as an Italian Pizza and distinct Alpine Hats.

The Berninaline: Tirano – Ospizio Bernina route Add-on for Train Sim World 4 costs £29.99/€35.99/$39.99 from Epic Games Store and Steam and is available now for , , PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
