In line with other train operators, train services operated by train operator Northern will be severely disrupted next week because of a strike and overtime ban by the ASLEF union.
Services will be affected during the period from Monday, 29 January to Tuesday, 6 February, and will result in many services being cancelled, often at short notice.
On Wednesday, 31 January, Northern will be forced to cancel all its services across the North of England as that is the day when ASLEF is imposing a strike on Northern’s routes. Train services will be badly affected as most ASLEF members employed by the company are train drivers.
To help passengers plan ahead, Northern has published a travel advice calendar for the period from Monday, 29 January to Tuesday, 6 February that shows when its services will be affected.
As well as a total stoppage on 31 January, there will be further disruption from Monday, 29 January to Tuesday, 6 February when ASLEF members take industrial action short of a strike. Anyone intending to travel on those days should check their travel plans before setting out as there may be some short notice cancellations to scheduled services.
Further information about the strike and which services are likely to be affected can be found on a dedicated strikes web page by clicking here.
Tricia Williams, chief operating officer at Northern, said: “We urge customers to check before they travel during this period of industrial action.
“We apologise in advance for the significant disruption and inconvenience this will cause our customers.
“We hope to see a resolution to this issue in the near future and an end to the disruption these strikes cause.”
