Hindley station has been given a makeover thanks to a team of volunteers from the station’s operator Northern, construction company Kier, and Network Rail.
The team of volunteers spent a day at Hindley station clearing weeds, litter-picking, and tidied up the station platforms and the surrounding areas. The station has a community garden, and the team also added to its offering by planting roses in it.
Craig Harrop, regional director at Northern said: “I’d like to thank everyone who volunteered to spend the day at Hindley.
“Our community partners are the heartbeat of the railway and we’re extremely proud to work closely with them to deliver such a wide-ranging positive impact for the North of England.”
In recent months, volunteers have also spruced up Northern stations at Dalston in Cumbria and at Filey in North Yorkshire.
On Sunday, 10 December, a new train timetable will be introduced for services from Hindley, along with all other stations across the rest of the country served by trains on the rest of the National Rail network. Anyone intending to travel on a Northern train service on or after 10 December should check the time of their trains in advance by using the ‘Check My Timetable’ feature on the Northern website here for more information about their local station.
