Greater Anglia have announced plans to upgrade the waiting shelter at station in .

Works to remove the existing shelter and level the raised concrete area on which it is currently situated will begin in February next year.

With no shelter available on the platform whilst the works go ahead, say they aim to complete the improvements as quickly as possible to minimise inconvenience to passengers and it is hoped the upgrades will be finalised sometime in March 2024.

Once finished the new shelter will be step free and partially enclosed, providing customers with shelter from the elements. CCTV will also be installed as part of the works.

Roydon village is situated a few miles to the west of Harlow in Essex, its station, which is on the Mainline, serves trains running from Cambridge North and Bishops Stortford into London’s Liverpool Street and Stratford terminuses.

Greater Anglia’s Asset Management Director, Simone Bailey, said:

“We are pleased to be upgrading the waiting shelter at Roydon to improve the facilities for station users and to create a step-free waiting area that is more easily accessible to everyone.

“Investing in upgrades to stations across the network is extremely important to Greater Anglia, demonstrating our commitment to providing excellent facilities and service standards for our customers.”

“We apologise for any inconvenience while this work is carried out.”

  1. I have been to Roydon and it’s quite near to Lea Valley and it’s close to the border with Hertfordshire. Same with Sawbridgeworth that is on the border with Hertfordshire. Nice to see a new shelter to be installed at Roydon.
