Fire on carriage of London Underground train at Leyton station

A suspected arson attack took place on a train at Leyton station on Saturday (2 December).

British Transport Police (BTP) officers were called just before 11.50pm, in response to a report of a bag which had melted into the floor of a train. BTP believe that the train pulled into Leyton Underground station at around 10.13pm, and that smoke was seen coming from the carriage.

The train’s carriage has been extensively damaged.

Leyton station is in the London Borough of Waltham Forest and serves London Underground’s .

Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or who have any information – particularly anyone who was on the train and took photos or video footage of the incident – to contact BTP by calling 0800 40 50 40, or by texting 61016 with the reference 747-021223.

People may also give information anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
