Amtrak offers Scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students

Amtrak is running an Scholarship Program that will award scholarships to 11 full-time undergraduate or graduate students who are passionate about rail.

The scholarship program is designed to encourage students to develop innovative ideas that will fuel the future of rail, and these offer undergraduate and graduate college students with scholarships that include:

  • Women in STEM, that allows students who identify as women to pursue an undergraduate or master’s degree, majoring in science, technology, engineering or mathematics;
  • Engineering, for students who have an interest in rail engineering;
  • IT, for students in information technology, computer sciences or a similar field;
  • Non-Technical, for students who wish to pursue a career in business, finance, marketing, supply chain, or a similar field
  • Philip Randolph, is a scholarship programme for the children, spouses, civil union partners, or domestic partners of Amtrak employees, retirees or furloughed employees.

There are also three Amtrak scholarships that align with and are co-sponsored by Amtrak Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) which provide a way for students to connect, contribute, and foster belonging by raising awareness.

They are for high school seniors who have been profoundly influenced by their experiences with the Hispanic/Latinx, Black/African American, or Asian American/Pacific Islander communities. Amtrak offers these scholarships to shows its commitment to fostering a brighter future, and offers financial assistance to students who have displayed exceptional courage, community engagement, and leadership that comes from from their unique cultural narratives.

Candidates for these scholarships are encouraged to submit more than one application, and applications are equally welcomed from students in urban, suburban, and rural communities. Through their scholarships, full time students will be helped with tuition, fees, books, and/or equipment.

Amtrak also runs programmes for paid internships and co-ops for both undergraduate and graduate students, while for those looking for entry-level learning opportunities it has a number of Apprenticeship Programs.
