An appeal for witnesses has been issued following the attempted murder of a woman at Leicester Square Underground Station in London last week.

Detectives have asked for anyone who saw the incident to come forward.

Officers were called to the station on Monday 6 November after reports were received of a man attempting to push a woman onto the tracks in front of an incoming train.  The incident happened shortly after 15:30.

The woman had been waiting on the platform when she saw the suspect arguing with an elderly man. She was then approached by the suspect who walked over, took hold of her arm and began dragging her, though she briefly managed to get away.

As the train approached, the victim’s arm was once again grabbed by the suspect who began to push her towards the tracks.  Two other passengers managed to pull the victim away from the suspect who reportedly boarded the train.

The suspect is described as a male around his late 20s, with a muscular build.  He was wearing a short puffer jacket with a beige scarf over his head.

British Transport Police (BTP) is asking the people who intervened, or anyone else who witnessed the incident, to contact them as soon as possible.
