The East Lancashire Railway has announced that two visiting locomotives for its Spring Steam Gala in March 2024.
LNER A4 No. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley and BR Class 7 No. 70000 Britannia will be visiting for the event, which will run between the 15th and 17th March 2024.
60007 will visit thanks to The Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Trust, whilst 70000 Britannia will visit thanks to Locomotive Services Group.
Additionally, the locomotives will join the home fleet locomotives as well as 45690 Leander, which has been based at the line since October 2023, to operate an intensive timetable.
Mike Kelly, Chairman of the East Lancashire Railway, said: “Over the years we have welcomed a great many iconic locomotives to the ELR and we are very proud and excited to make these locomotives available to the many thousands of enthusiasts to see, hear and ride behind them.
“These exciting additions to the ELR’s ‘Legends of Steam’ event promises to make the celebration even more special.
“I’d like to thank the Sir Nigel Gresley Locomotive Trust Ltd, Royal Scot Locomotive & General Trust, Locomotive Services and the Jubilee Locomotive Co for allowing these icons to operate on our railway.”

What a fantastic lineup. As usual, it coincides with Ramsbottom’s Music Festival, so I will be supporting my wife in conducting her choir, (they won last year), before watching these great locomotives. Well done ELR
I have definitly going. this could be the only chance to see my two favourite classes on the railway! Will need to balance this with the GCR’s GCR 125 Gala which is happening the same weekend
Can we book tickets? If so which date will they definitely be there please?
Great news 😁🚂🚂
Well I am chuffed, I got my camera ready, lets hope that we are all out of hibernation by next March.
