ScotRail has issued travel advice to passengers going to Scotland‘s men’s Euro 2024 qualifier against Norway at Hampden Park on Sunday evening.
Although Scotland have already qualified for the finals next year, and Norway are already eliminated, football fans will still attend the game in large numbers, so the operator will provide extra seats and services to and from Mount Florida, the closest station to Hampden Park.
ScotRail expects that its services will be busier than normal, as the switch-on of Christmas lights switch will be taking place at Glasgow‘s George Square on the same evening.
It is advising supporters heading to the game, which kicks off at 7.45pm, to allow extra time for their journey. It is also asking fans to be patient while its staff help people board trains safely.
Queuing systems will operate at Glasgow Central before the games, and at Mount Florida station after the match ends. ScotRail advises that passengers can reduce their need to queue by buying return tickets to Mount Florida in advance via the mTicket system on the ScotRail app. This enables passengers to buy tickets while at home or on their way to the stations; the tickets are then immediately available on their mobile device.
When the match ends, ScotRail is asking fans to go to Mount Florida as quickly as possible and to join the queue on Bolton Drive. There will be limited access between the station and Battlefield Road, and the car park at Langside college, after the match.
The operator is also advising passengers who are travelling to destinations outside the central belt after the match to consider their options as services wind down earlier on Sunday evenings.
It is also reminding everyone is that they are not allowed to carry or consume alcohol on ScotRail trains and in ScotRail stations.
Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said: “We’re looking forward to helping fans travel by train to watch the Scotland men’s national team play Norway at Hampden on Sunday night.
“We’re adding more trains and extra carriages to trains between Glasgow Central and Mount Florida to help supporters travel to and from the match.
“Our advice to customers is to leave extra time for travel as trains are likely to be busier than normal with the Glasgow Christmas light switch on also taking place. Buying return tickets to before you board will help your journey run smoothly.”
