At this year’s Skills Academy Wales Awards, the winner of the Apprentice of the Year title was awarded to Jamilla Fletcher, a newly-qualified driver for Transport for Wales who has just graduated from the company’s train driving apprenticeship scheme.
This year’s award ceremony was held on 7 November, at the Skills Academy Wales Neath Port Talbot Campus. It is an annual event that provides a platform where exceptional individuals and businesses from across Wales can receive due recognition, and is designed to showcase what those engaged in Skills Academy Wales’s work-based learning programmes have achieved throughout the previous year.
Transport for Wales extended its huge congratulations to Jamilla for all the hard work she has done this year to achieve her award.
Last year, Transport for Wales committed to ‘earn and learn’ with The 5% Club which is an industry-led drive to recruit apprentices, graduates, and sponsored students.
Michael Duffy, Jamilla’s Driver Team Manager said: “Jamilla was an excellent candidate as a trainee driver, amongst a high standard of drivers we have recruited.
“She is incredibly professional within her role and she brings enthusiasm with her by the bucketful. Jamilla is a credit to the others that she trained with and also to TfW.
“Well done to all the new drivers and congratulations to Jamilla.”
Operations Training Manager Adam Bagwell (pictured with Jamilla) added: “I’d like to congratulate Jamilla and I’m absolutely thrilled that she has won this award.
“Her hard work and dedication to her learning throughout her training and beyond has been exemplary, and she did it all with a huge smile on her face too.
“I’m sure she will continue to be an inspiration to other trainees who are about to embark on their learning journeys.”
