Dovetail Games has released the first add-on route for Train Sim World 4.
The route, Blackpool Branches: Preston – Blackpool & Ormskirk, which has been developed by Just Trains, is now available for purchase on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC platforms.
Train Sim World 4 initially debuted back in September, boasting big names such as the Flying Scotsman and LNER Azumas among its many available trains.
Now, Dovetail Games has added to the simulator’s already expansive network with an expansion that provides a little extra seaside charm. The eponymous new route, takes passengers to and from the idyllic Blackpool North and South Branches, along with both Ormskirk and the disused Burn Naze branch.
In addition to the new route, the add-on also introduces the Class 142 Pacer to the game, presented in all its ‘80s glory in three different liveries: BR Provincial Blue, Skipper Chocolate & Cream and Greater Manchester Orange.
Available engine and transmission variants for the Class 142 include:
- Leyland TL11 + SCG RRE5
- Leyland TL11 + Voith T211r
- Cummins LTA10-R + Voith T211r
In addition to this, the new add-on also includes several fan favourite trains in BR livery. The Class 47/4 and Class 08, which previously appeared in Northern Trans-Pennine and Tees Valley Line and BR Heavy Freight Pack respectively, have been added to the new Lancashire branches.
While the Class 47/4 will feature BR Blue, BR Large Logo and BR Intercity liveries and haul Mk1 newspaper/parcels trains, Mk2 passenger trains and TEA Tanker Wagons, the Class 08 will come in a Crewe depot variant of BR Blue livery, as well as a 08744 Wigan TMD variant with a white roof.
These updates come with a variety of lighting and environment feature updates, including Volumetric Fog and new rain effects to provide an extra layer of atmospheric detail to train journeys.
In addition to this, the Preston – Blackpool route features a healthy selection of detailed landmarks from the real world journey. Blackpool Tower and Blackpool Pleasure Beach are both obvious inclusions, but the route also features such iconic sights as Ainscough’s Mill, Preston Ribble Viaduct, St Warlburge’s Church and Warbreck Hill Water Tower.
As is the case with previous incarnations of Train Sim World, various locations along the route, such as stations and signal boxes, can be explored on-foot, and there are plenty of collectibles and secrets to discover.
Those who already own additional Train Sim World routes and trains will see additional advantages. These include:
- Tees Valley Line: for the Class 101 DMU.
- West Cornwall Local: for the Seacow Wagons.
- Northern TransPennine: for the Class 45 Diesel locomotive.
- Spirit of Steam: for the LMS Stanier 8F steam locomotive, Mk1 Coaches, 16t Mineral Wagon and 20t Brake Van.
- BR Heavy Freight Pack: for the Class 40 Diesel locomotive.
- BR Class 31 Loco Add-On
- BR Class 20 Loco Add-On
The new add-on comes with five new scenarios: two for the 142 Pacer, two for the Class 47/4, and one for the Class 08. Completing these scenarios, earning AP, and driving 75 miles (or 120km) will unlock additional tile scenarios and decals.
Dovetail games has already been involved in heavily promoting the base version of Train Sim World 4. Last month, executive producer Matt Pedddlesden took part in a charity stream for the simulator, raising money for the charity SpecialEffect.
Train Sim World 4: Blackpool Branches: Preston – Blackpool & Ormskirk route Add-on costs £29.99/€35.99/$39.99, and is available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and on PC on the Epic Game Store and on Steam.
