Passengers thanked by Network Rail following two major bridge upgrades in Runcorn

Network Rail has carried out the upgrade of two railway bridges in in order to preserve and protect the structures in to the future.

Warford Farm Bridge and Watercourse Bridge have seen the following work carried out:

  • Strengthening work
  • Waterproofing
  • Brickwork repairs

The work will support more reliable travel for both passenger and freight services.

In order to carry out the important work in a safe and efficient manner, it was necessary to close the railway with passengers kept on the move thanks to rail replacement buses organised by train operators.

William Brandon, Network Rail project manager for Network Rail, said:

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to passengers for bearing with us while we completed these essential upgrades.”

“The work that’s taken place will help to strengthen and preserve the structures, allowing trains to run safely through the area while increasing the reliability of rail travel for passengers.”
