Filey station in North Yorkshire is looking brighter and smarter after a day’s work by a team of volunteers.

Filey is a Grade II* listed station in on the Hull to Scarborough Line, and is managed by Northern. The seaside town’s station was opened in 1846.

More than a dozen people worked together on the project, representing Northern Yorkshire Coast Community Rail, Hymers National Citizens Service, ISS property management services and North Yorkshire council assembled.

Although the weather was unpleasant, the volunteers managed to paint fences, clear litter and tidy platforms and surrounding areas.

The station café, the Saucy Seagull, provided refreshments to keep the volunteers going.

Kerry Peters, regional director at Northern said: “I’d like to thank everyone who volunteered to spend the day at Filey despite the appalling weather.

“Our community partners are the heartbeat of the railway and we’re extremely proud to work closely with them to deliver such a wide-ranging positive impact for the North of England.
