Giffnock station in East Renfrewshire to see £1.2m platform works start in December

Network Rail will begin a four-month programme of work at Giffnock Station in East Renfrewshire on Saturday the 2nd of December and will see part of Platform 1 renewed and extended.

The project will see an investment of £1.2 million made in order to replace and extend a section of platform 1’s 153-metre platform, which is over 80 years old. The section being replaced is located at the south end of Platform 1 and will also be extended by a further 15 metres in order to support future at the site.

Most of the work will be carried out throughout the night in order to keep passengers on the move and the station operating normal hours. The pedestrian footbridge will be open at all times during the period of work.

The period will also remain unaffected during the work, with no work planned from the 22nd of December through to the 6th of January 2024.

The car park which neighbours the station will see some changes during the period of work as the site’s compound will make use of 11 parking spaces from the 2nd to the 22nd of December. From January through to April, 33 parking spaces will need to be used to accommodate the site compound safely.

From the 26th of January to the 23rd of February, a two-carriage train service will be in operation in order to safely deliver the refurbishment to a section of the platform.

It is intended that the site compound will stay in place after April 2024 in order to support an enhancement project with Network Rail set to release further details to the local community prior to the work getting underway.

“We understand the inconvenience our activity will cause the community living nearby and thank people for their patience. However, this vital work is a necessary part of preserving our assets to ensure we run a safe and reliable railway for our customers.”
