Every year East Midlands Railway (EMR) holds a special Routes of Remembrance event, and this year an addition to the events will be a special poem that has been written by volunteers to mark Remembrance Day.

The poem, titled It took every soldier will be read tomorrow, Friday, 10 November, at Remembrance events to be held at Derby and Nottingham stations that start at 10:45 am. As well as reading of the poem, a bugler will play the last post, and there will be a wreath-laying ceremony to show respects to Britain’s fallen heroes.

East Midlands Railway’s annual Routes of Remembrance event is held each year in partnership with the Veterans Charity. Community Rail Partnership members and station adopters created the Remembrance poem during a workshop run by creative writer Olivia McNab.

It will be permanently displayed at both Derby and Nottingham stations alongside other Remembrance artwork, as well as being showcased in poster cases throughout EMR’s network during the month of November.

At Sheffield, a new memorial event is being held, whilst East Midlands Railway has worked with the Artworks South Yorkshire charity to install knitted poppies on the archways around the station.

Many other stations across the railway’s network will also be decorated with poppies and war poems to create a touching and respectful atmosphere, including at Willington station which has a powerful war poem and stunning poppy display and at Beeston station where there is also a poppy display.
