The railway station at Parbold in Lancashire station has been brightened up with a series of posters that takes visitors back in time to show them what it would have looked like in the 1950s.

The posters project was funded by Northern, and they merge past and present as they show scenes based on a collection of photographs that show Parbold station what it is like now and how it looked 70 years ago.

To complement the posters, The Friends of Parbold Station have brightened up the fencing on parts of the platform with the display, which besides showing views of the station, displays scenes from around the village, including the Leeds and Liverpool canal and landmarks such as the Parbold windmill.

Parbold village is on the West Lancashire railway line between Manchester and Southport, with the nearest sizable towns being Skelmersdale, about 5 miles away, Ormskirk 7 miles away, and Wigan 9 miles away.

The poster display at Parbold continues Northern’s involvement in the communities is serves, as this evening, Saturday, 14 October, a huge mural of Leeds Rhinos rugby league legend Rob Burrow is being unveiled at the Super League Grand Final, while at Halifax in West Yorkshire it sponsored a mural that depicts the town’s culture, history and wildlife.
