When they went on display, the new train captured the attention of industry partners, transit agencies, rail enthusiasts, and environmental advocates. After extensive testing in Switzerland and the , it was proved that the train had exceptional performance and reliability, which led to the decision by CalSTA and Caltrans to sign the new agreement with Stadler.

The latest contract further develops the SBCTA model with a train offering an increased capacity, which reinforces Caltran’s unwavering commitment to investment in cutting-edge technology to help California meet its ambitious zero-emission target for rail transport.

With California making large investments in rail transport, the deployment of these hydrogen trains across the state marks a revolution in the rail industry as they make significant reductions in carbon emissions helping the drive for California’s commitment to a zero-emission rail network.
