Train operator c2c is getting into the spirit of Halloween by launching across the City of London that will take visitors to many spooky sites.
All of the sites are within a 30-minute walk of Fenchurch Street station. Participants can choose to discover sites inspired by Halloween, take a guided walk around the City of London, follow their own frightful path, or enjoy a haunted pint or two.
Among the mysterious tales to be found on the trail are a haunting in Cock Lane which is next to London’s Smithfield market and achieved notoriety when Charles Dickens wrote about it, the story of a ghostly figure who was seen in St Botolph’s of Bishopsgate, and the friendly ghost named Fred who roams the Viaduct Tavern in Newgate Street.
Those are just a few of the spooky encounters to be discovered.
There are many more along c2c’s network, as can be seen from the map it has produced, which can be downloaded here.
Near the end of c2c’s network is Southend, where visitors can enjoy some spooky fun at its Halloween parade.
As well as c2c’s guides, the City of London has produced a self-guided walk around the City limits from Fenchurch Street to Fleet Street, which will help visitors discover its haunted history. Walking locations are shown on the map which is illustrated with ghosts reading the map which can be downloaded here.
