Transport for has revealed that ‘At Seat Ordering’ is now available on its Premier services operating between , and .

To enjoy At Seat Ordering, customers simply scan a QR code from the comfort of their seat and let the customer host do the rest.

Customers can enjoy a wide selection of choices from the rail operator’s delicious menu, which features quality food and drink sourced from Wales and the UK. This year has also seen the Catering Team renamed ‘Blas’, which is Welsh for ‘Taste’ as part of its ongoing bid to provide high-quality produce from local suppliers.

The rail operator will also roll out the QR ordering system across its new fleet of Class 197 trains in the near future, which will support mainline routes across Wales and the English border.

Paul Otterburn, Catering Operations Manager for TfW, said: “When you’re travelling long distance, what could be better than sitting back and watching the world go by with a nice light meal, snack, or drink?”

“Our premier services have an onboard chef so you can have hot food cooked fresh and brought out to you with a couple of clicks.”

“The QR system allows you to have a look at what’s on offer from the comfort of your seat without having to walk through several carriages to the buffet car.”

  1. As others say TFW need to run it what ever they need to do. If this diversion or what ever. If you can’t run to a timetable then advertising this is a waste of time. Some of us won’t actually turn up to travel if it’s unreliable!

  2. And this presupposes the so-called “Premier Service” actually runs.

Take yesterday (2/10/2023) for example: only one Cardiff – Manchester train timetabled with first class and a restaurant car formed from a Mark 4 set and 67 actually ran, the rest being the usual motley assortment of 150s, 158s, 175s and 197s, none of which could be described as premier.

Perhaps until TfW can get things right and have the premier service actually running – and how long have we been waiting for that? – they should stop creating unrealistic expectations.
