Weekend services on the Piccadilly and District Lines will be disrupted for extended periods this coming weekend and at the end of October.

The Piccadilly and District lines will close from 21.00 this evening, Friday, 15 September.

The District line will be closed from Earl’s Court to and until the end of service on Sunday, 17 September. The Piccadilly line will be closed until the morning of Sunday 17 September from Hyde Park Corner to Northfields and Uxbridge, when there will be no services between Hyde Park Corner and Town.

During the closures, rail replacement buses will serve all local stations on the affected parts of both lines, including closed Piccadilly line stations that are normally served by Night Tube services.

On Sunday, 17 September services will only run as far as Acton Town on the Uxbridge and Northfields branches, with rail replacement buses required to be used between Acton Town and central London.

Services on Central and Metropolitan Lines which connect with some areas affected by the closure will be unaffected and operate normally.

Customers for Airport should use either the Elizabeth Line or express coach services to and from Hammersmith. The rest of both the Piccadilly and District lines are scheduled to operate as normal through the weekend, and a full service will resume across both lines on Monday 18 September.

The extended closures are required because of track renewal at Hammersmith and West Kensington Tube stations, including the replacement of sleepers, rails and ballast. This work will be completed from Thursday, 26 October until Sunday, 29 October, and will only require the closure of the District between Earl’s Court and Ealing Broadway, Richmond and Kensington (Olympia). Rail replacement buses will run again during this closure, with normal services set to operate as normal on Monday 30 October.

During the October closure, a new drainage system will be installed at West Kensington station which will reduce the risk of delays on the District line.

The following rail replacement bus services will operate during the September closure, and full details of the can be found at tfl.gov.uk/status-updates:

  • Service DL1 will operate between Earl’s Court and Northfields after 21:00 on Friday and on Saturday, and between Earls’ Court and Acton Town on Sunday.
  • Service PL4 will operate between Ealing Broadway and Rayners line after 21:00 on Friday and on Saturday.
  • During Night Tube operating hours, Service DL1 will become service PL2 and will also call at Gloucester Road, South Kensington, Knightsbridge and Hyde Park Corner.

Richard Jones, TfL’s Director of Asset Performance Delivery, said: “We understand that closures like this may cause to our customers, but the track work being completed is vital to ensure that the Tube can continue to operate as reliably as possible in these areas.

“Rail replacement buses will operate throughout the work and the Elizabeth, Central and Metropolitan lines will run as scheduled to allow customers to complete their journeys. I would encourage customers to check before they travel using our travel tools and I thank them in advance for their understanding.”
