Work is about to start on making improvements to the car park at Audley End railway station in Essex.
The work is due to start next Monday, 18 September, and will require the closure of part of the existing car park so that new accessible bays can be provided.
Other work included in the improvements to the car park includes new lighting three new electric vehicle charging points, and 26 more blue badge parking bays near the station entrance.
With 580 spaces in the car park, there will still be plenty of standard parking bays available as well as blue badge parking bays. Whilst the work is being carried out, cycle parking and access for buses and taxis will continue to be available.
The work will also include the construction of an alternative accessible route from the car park to the station platforms and the ticket office. Greater Anglia expects that the work will take around 9 weeks, with completion scheduled for later in the autumn.
The project has been designed so that it will be consistent with Equality legislation, which includes accessible parking spaces that are clearly defined, the correct number of accessible spaces for the size of the car park, and ensuring that there are suitable distances between adjacent vehicles in the accessible bays.
Earlier this year Greater Anglia reduced car parking charges at the station to attract customers back to rail, and last year the station’s toilets were upgraded.
Greater Anglia’s Asset Management Director, Simone Bailey, said,” We are pleased to be upgrading the car park at Audley End to improve the facilities for station users.
“The car park will remain open while we carry out this work and there will still be plenty of parking available, keeping inconvenience to passengers to a minimum.
“Investing in upgrades to stations across the network is extremely important to Greater Anglia, demonstrating our commitment to providing excellent facilities and service standards for our customers.”
Responses
Is Greater Anglia going to keep on ignoring Wickford railway station and to continue on improving other stations. It seems that they are ignoring Wickford train station and it needs a new station building and a new waiting room as well. Also they need to sort out Prittlewell station as well that needs a new footbridge.
