Nexus who owns and operates Tyne and Wear Metro has seen incredible sales for Metro’s Great North Run Day Rover wristbands, breaking all records and are now completely sold out!
The wristbands were sold via the Nexus website and saw a massive 10,000 tickets sold, which is the most, since the special tickets were introduced back in 2013 and doubling the sales of 2022.
Metro’s Great North Run Rover ticket is still available to buy either ahead or on-the-day for both runners and spectators attending the Great North Run on Sunday the 10th of September.
The tickets can be purchased at any Metro station using a Metro ticket machine for just £6 and are valid for the entire day, across all Metro zones and covering travel on all local bus services including race shuttles, the Shields Ferry and Northern Rail trains travelling between Newcastle and Sunderland.
In order to promote sustainable travel, the Great North Run Day Rover has been subsidised to have a lower price thanks to funding via the government-supported Bus Service Improvement Plan.
Huw Lewis, Customer Services Director at Nexus, said:
“We’ve seen record sales of Great North Run Day Rover wristbands this year, underling the importance of the public transport getting people to and from this world-class event.”
“All 10,000 wristbands for Metro and bus services sold out a few hours before the deadline for postal applications, but you can still buy your bus, Shields Ferry, and Metro travel in advance to save time on the day.”
“The bus network, Metro and Shields Ferry have such a vital role to play on the day of the Great North Run. These wristband sales just shows how much people rely on these networks to get to start line and home from South Shields afterwards.”
“Sunday promises to be a great day. Our advice to customers is to plan ahead and allow plenty of time to get to the start line. After the run, there will be queues, but we will get this moving as quickly as we can. All of the latest travel information is on the Nexus website.”
