The Strathspey Steam Railway has released an update following last night’s shunting incident involving Flying Scotsman.
Services that were originally cancelled will now run, but will be operated using Ivatt No. 46512 whilst 60103 Flying Scotsman awaits an inspection.
The 09:00 will be cancelled this morning, but it is planned for the 11:00 departure to run.
The Royal Scotsman carriage set, which was involved in last night’s incident, is being taken to the shed to clear Platform 3 for today’s services.
A spokesperson for the Strathspey Steam Railway said on their Facebook page: “On account of the incident previously intimated, our Saturday and Sunday services will now run, although Ivatt 46512 will haul the train whilst the Flying Scotsman locomotive awaits inspection.”
“Due to the current circumstances, we need to cancel the 0900 Flying Scotsman departure, but we intend to operate the 1100 departure but with our own Ivatt 46512, and therefore FS ticket holders can travel on this and the following timetabled services. This is an evolving situation and we will keep you updated.”
“We ask for your understanding in what has been a difficult situation as we recover the position and any further updates will be posted to this channel.”

Hardly a bonus when people have been injured and one of the most historic locos potentially out of service and damaged. Ridiculous comment!!
11 cancelled as well, just been down, informed to get a refund
Personally I’d class that as a bonus as 46512 is one of my favourite locos!
