Services to Leven and Cameron Bridge are planned to start in late spring/early summer 2024, and will be the first time that the line has been served by rail services since the 1960s.

The consultation is to seek comments on both two interim timetables for the services when they start next year, and on the planned timetable for 2025. Meanwhile, ScotRail is endeavouring to ensure that everything is in place for its introduction. Under both options there will be direct services from Levenmouth to with a journey time of just over an hour and connections with other stations in Fife.

The two interim options either keep the existing timetable structure across Fife with little change, or introduce extra services throughout the day and evening, reduce journey times from Dundee and north Fife to Edinburgh, and provide better connections between south and east Fife.

The 2025 timetable will see a more comprehensive restructuring of services between Edinburgh, Fife, Dundee, and Perth, with more frequent services across the region and improved regional connectivity.

Full details of the consultation can be found on the ScotRail website here, and comments can be submitted until Monday, 23 October.

Scott Prentice, ScotRail Head of Business Development, said: “We’re delighted to be reintroducing services to Levenmouth next year and are confident that the communities in the area and across Fife will benefit from the improved connectivity to work, leisure, and public services that this will bring.

“We know that what our customers want above all is a reliable and efficient service. ?We are taking the steps required to introduce a new timetable for Fife and the Tay Cities in 2025, with an interim timetable being introduced in late spring/early summer 2024 that will deliver many of its benefits.

“We encourage customers and all with an interest in this matter to respond to the survey so they can give their views on what they would like from rail services between Edinburgh, Fife, Dundee and Perth.”
