Railway rolling stock leasing company Porterbrook is celebrating winning two gongs at this year’s National Rail Awards. Both were awarded jointly to Porterbrook and the other companies it has worked with.

The awards were handed out this week at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

Porterbrook received the Safety Achievement of the Year Award for its Safer Switches and Crossings Project with Network Rail, DG8, Machines with Vision and One Big Circle. The project developed monitoring technology carried on trains, so many inspections of these high-risk assets are now carried out by engineers remotely instead of on foot.

Porterbrook, together with Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) and Alstom, also received the Fleet Achievement of the Year Award for Project Aurora. This project is upgrading GTR’s entire Electrostar fleet, and significantly improving reliability and passenger experience. The project is now over halfway through, with the 135th of 270 units delivered at the end of July.

Porterbrook missed out on the Freight and Logistics Achievement of the Year Award, but was finalist, in recognition of the successful delivery of freight wagons to GB Railfreight with Greenbrier. The company was also a finalist in the Outstanding Contribution to Society category.
