Northern has issued a list of pubs that it considers to be the best places to enjoy a pint at the start or end of a journey across the North of England.
The list has been issued to mark National Cask Ale Week from today, Thursday, 21 September to Sunday, 1 October.
Track and Sleeper at Knaresborough in North Yorkshire
Track and Sleeper is on platform two at Knaresborough station and is a small but perfectly formed bar, operated by craft beer brewers, The Gorilla Brothers. They transformed derelict storage rooms into a popular micropub, with their efforts being rewarded with a heritage award.
The Snug at Carnforth in Lancashire
Its name of The Snug reflects its small size, but this cosy micropub has a frequent change of drinks supplied by a variety of brewers from Manchester, Cumbria, Liverpool, and further afield.
The Rat Race at Hartlepool in County Durham
The Rat Race is a quirky pub offering four changing beers and two ciders. Its opening hours are also quirky, as they align with train timetables, which currently is 12.02 exactly.
The Tap at Harrogate in North Yorkshire
Travellers are spoilt for choice at The Tap with its extensive selection of beer, with 12 traditional cask hand-pulls, 15 keg beers, and bottles and cans from microbreweries and larger, more established breweries from around the world. The Tap has an amazing atmosphere and is located within the only remaining part of the Harrogate s original 1862 station building.
The Mallard Inn at Worksop in Nottinghamshire
The Mallard Inn was originally the station buffet at Worksop. It offers a warm welcome where travellers can enjoy a choice of as four changing real ales, a selection of foreign bottled beers, country fruit wines, and specialist gins. In 2015 it won the Nottinghamshire CAMRA Pub of the Year and has also received numerous awards from the North Notts branch of CAMRA.
The Ticket Office at Ilkley in West Yorkshire
The Ticket Office is steeped in atmosphere with chandeliers, a dark wood ceiling, and stylish d cor. It has a restaurant as well as a bar and offers a small but perfectly formed list of cask and craft ales.
The Victoria Tap at Manchester Victoria station
The Victoria Tap is due to open next month and is and is the station s second pub alongside The Beer House. It plans to offer a wide range of beers and lagers from local and international breweries and also features an all-weather beer garden.
