With an increase in incidents of unwanted sexual behaviour, train operator Northern has teamed up with students from the Bradford City Community Foundation to raise awareness about the problem and its prevalence in society.

In partnership with British Transport Police and Network Rail, Northern has supported the production of a short film that highlights the different types of activity that are deemed to be unacceptable. They include catcalling, staring, up-skirting, cyber flashing, exposing, touching, and pressing.

The short film was shot and edited by Kimia Modaressi Chahardehi.

In July, British Transport Police relaunched its ‘Railway Guardian’ app, which allows users to report crimes or concerns on the rail network, share their journeys with trusted contacts, and get access to news, guides, and support. The app is available to download from Google Play and the Apple App Store.

British Transport Police is keen to remind everyone that if they have information about any crime on the railway, they can contact them by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, or can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Kerry Peters, regional director for Northern, said: “Unwanted sexual behaviour can happen anywhere and people need to feel empowered to report it.

“Like all public areas, the railway is not immune to this behaviour – which is why we wanted to support the students with this project.”
