Wednesday the 13th of September saw 53-year-old Richard Bray, of no fixed abode, jailed after pleading guilty to ‘possession of an offensive weapon in a public place’.
The court case took place at Bradford Magistrate’s Court, where Bray received a six-month jail sentence, alongside being ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £154.
During the case, the court heard how on Tuesday the 12th of September, Bray visited the British Transport Police station in Leeds station, where he communicated that he was in possession of offensive weapons in the form of two large steel camps from a construction site.
Bray informed officers that he did intend to use the clamps as weapons in order to protect himself, and if they were removed, he might stab somebody.
PC Ryan Moss, Investigating Officer said:
“Bray is clearly a dangerous individual who could have potentially caused serious injury to another member of the public.”
“Given his own admission that the clamps were being carried with the intention of causing harm to others, Magistrates had little choice but to hand him a custodial sentence.”
“Anyone who carries items on the railway with the purpose of causing injury will be arrested and brought before the courts.”
