Model railway manufacturer Hornby has announced that it has released a model of the London and Northeastern Railway P2 Class No. 2007 Prince of Wales.

Prince of Wales is being built by The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust at its headquarters in Darlington.

For a long time, Hornby has supported the aims and ambitions of the Trust, whilst the Trust’s long-standing relationship with Simon Kohler, for many years Hornby’s Head of Marketing, and his deputy, Montana Hoeren, has ensured that the Trust has benefitted financially from this arrangement.

Hornby’s 00 gauge model of Tornado has also benefitted the Trust financially, as it has received a percentage of the retail profit from sales of the Tornado model as a royalty payment. That arrangement is set to continue with the arrival of Hornby’s superb model of No. 2007 Prince of Wales.

During the production of the Prince of Wales model, the design team at Hornby had unparalleled access to both the Trust’s drawings and the actual locomotive. That has enabled the design team to produce one of the most-accurate commercially-made models available.

The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust was delighted to welcome Catherine Dunning and Mark Chivers from Hornby to its new Darlington Locomotive Works where they unveiled the new Hornby model of No. 2007 Prince of Wales. In return, the Trust would like to wish Hornby the best of luck with the release of its new model, and look forward to seeing the team from Hornby in Darlington again soon.

Hornby is also the lead sponsor for the centenary celebration of A3 Class No 4472 Flying Scotsman, and earlier this years it released some new models to celebrate its centenary.
