Cumbria youngsters go on an aquarium trip

Northern’s station adopters took a group of twenty young people on a day trip to the Coast Aquarium in , Cumbria.

‘Shackles Off’ is a youth and community project in the village of and the town of Millom.

During the school summer holidays, Station Adopters for Seascale and work with the project to provide trips and activities.

The Aquarium is located on the harbourside of Maryport, a small town with Roman roots on the Solway Firth coastline.

The Aquarium contains mainly native species, and the youngers’ visit included a voyage ‘under the sea’.

Northern provided free travel for the group.

Craig Harrop, regional director at Northern said: “We are happy to be able to support Shackles Off, who do a huge amount of work working with young people in Cumbria – and some of them were able to experience travelling by train for the very first time.

“At Northern, we are proud to be a part of the communities we serve and aim to make a positive impact for the North.”

Bethany Taylor, senior youth worker at Shackles Off, said: “Our young people got the chance to admire and learn about different kinds of sea life up close. As well as this, the group had hours of fun at the park and mini golf. Thank you to Northern who helped facilitate travel for the trip.”
