ScotRail is issuing travel advice regarding upcoming industrial action taken across the UK by union this Saturday the 26th of August. Whilst the strike action will impact a number of rail operating companies, only a small number of ScotRail services will be affected by the strike action, including:

  • Between Central and Carlisle
  • Between Dumfries and Carlisle

These services will be impacted by strike action on the 26th of August due to train dispatching being actioned by other rail operating companies which are affected by the industrial action.

Travel advice is being given to ScotRail customers to plan travel ahead due to services being busier than usual as Scotland plays Georgia at Scottish Gas Murrayfield as part of the Famous Grouse Nations Series and the final weekend of the Edinburgh Festivals. It is also likely that customers who usually travel with other rail operators will make use of ScotRail services.

Union will also take strike action on Friday the 1st of September, which will not affect ScotRail services. Action short of a strike will also be taken by ASLEF members and strike action by RMT members on Saturday the 2nd of September will see very few ScotRail services affected.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said:

“The dispute between the trade unions and other train operators does not involve any ScotRail staff, which means we’ll be able to run our services as normal during the latest industrial action.”

“A small number of ScotRail services to and from Carlisle will see some as a result of the planned RMT strike action on Saturday, 26 August and Saturday, 2 September, so customers travelling on this route should check their train times before leaving for the station.”

“We’d also urge anyone travelling to plan their journey in advance, as we’re expecting our trains to be much busier than normal due to the rugby at Murrayfield, the final weekend of the Festivals, and customers of other operators travelling with ScotRail.”
