Whilst most train operators in England will be affected by this weekend’s strikes by ASLEF and the RMT unions, the majority of ScotRail services will operate as normal.

Members of ASLEF, which is the train drivers’ union, plan to strike action on Friday, 1 September and will not perform non-contractual overtime duties the following day, Saturday, 2 September. Also on Saturday, 2 September. members of the RMT union will also be on strike.

ScotRail services will be mostly unaffected by the strikes as the industrial action does not involve any ScotRail staff, but is because of an ongoing dispute between the trade unions and a number of other train operating companies across the UK.

No ScotRail services will be affected by the ASLEF strike action on Friday, 1 September. However, a few ScotRail services between Glasgow Central and Carlisle, and between Dumfries and Carlisle, will be affected on Saturday, 2 September. This is because the dispatching of trains from Carlisle station is carried out by staff from other train operators.

ScotRail is encouraging customers to plan ahead as its services will be busier than normal with customers of other train operating companies travelling on ScotRail services.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail Customer Operations Director, said: “The dispute between the trade unions and other train operators does not involve any ScotRail staff, which means we’ll be able to run the vast majority of our services as normal during this weekend’s industrial action.

“Only a small number of ScotRail services to and from Carlisle will see some disruption as a result of the planned RMT strike action on Saturday, 2 September, so customers travelling on this route should check their train times before leaving for the station.

“We’d also urge anyone travelling over the weekend to plan their journey in advance, as we’re expecting our trains to be busier than normal with customers of other operators travelling with ScotRail.”
