ScotRail is working with four cycling companies to offer free and discounted bike hire to people travelling by train to their destination.
The four companies taking part are Brompton Bicycle, Blair Atholl Bike Hire, Ticket to Ride and Nevis Cycles.
The four schemes, full details of which are on the ScotRail website, are as follows:
- Passengers to Inverness, Elgin, and Oban benefit from 24 hours free bike hire from cycle hire firm, Brompton Bicycle.
- Passengers to Inverness can also claim a ten per cent discount on cycle hire at Ticket to Ride, or a fifteen per cent discount with a Spirit of Scotland travel pass.
- Passengers to Oban and Fort William can get ten per cent off cycle hire with a rail ticket, or fifteen per cent off with a Spirit of Scotland travel pass, from Nevis Cycles.
- A ten per cent discount is available at Blair Atholl Bike Hire, allowing ScotRail passengers to explore the stunning landscapes around Blair Atholl by bike.
Andrew Marshall-Roberts, ScotRail Active Travel Manager, said: “ScotRail is committed to promoting active travel and developing a more integrated transport network in Scotland.
“We know that journeys don’t start and end at the train station, and there are increasing numbers of people taking day trips, long weekends, and short stays across the country.
“Our partnerships with Brompton Bike Hire, Blair Atholl Bike Hire, Ticket to Ride, and Nevis Cycles will allow more people to explore the best that scenic Scotland has to offer while encouraging an active lifestyle with great economic benefits for the tourist industry in these areas.”
