In line with other train operators, train services will be disrupted next weekend because of industrial action by members of the union.

The strike is taking place on Saturday, 26 August, but Northern services are likely to be affected from next Friday, 25 to Monday, 28 August. To assist customers in making their travel plans, Northern has published a travel advice calendar for 25-28 August that shows when services will be affected.

On the day of the strike, Saturday, 26 August, Northern will only be able to operate a very limited service on the following routes hourly from a very few stations and only between 8 am and 5 pm.

  • Liverpool – Manchester Airport
  • – York via Micklefield
  • Leeds – Ilkley
  • Leeds – Skipton
  • Leeds – Bradford Forster Square
  • Leeds – Moorthorpe – Sheffield
  • Leeds – Hebden Bridge via Bradford
  • Darlington – Saltburn

On Sunday, 27 August, early morning services will also be subject to as the strikes will have on the location of trains.

The RMT union has also called a strike for the following Saturday, 2 September, and services are likely to be subject to the same level of disruption.

Further information about the effect of the strikes and the limited service that will be in operation is available online at www.northernrailway.co.uk/travel/strikes.

Tricia Williams, chief operating officer at Northern, said: “We know these RMT strikes will cause disruption to the general public.

“Whilst this is only a one-day strike, it falls right in the middle of the busy August bank holiday weekend and will impact people trying to get to major events taking place across region, including Manchester United and Everton football fixtures, York Races, Leeds Festival, Creamfields and Manchester Pride.

“The RMT is still refusing to put the latest pay offer negotiated on behalf of train operators to a vote by their members and it is unfortunate that these strikes continue for their second summer.”
