Rail operator Lumo is offering a PlusBus add-on to tickets to Edinburgh for people travelling to the city’s Fringe Festival, which starts today.

Passengers can add a PlusBus ticket for £4.50 when they purchase a train ticket. The ticket gives unlimited onward bus and tram travel on many services in and around Edinburgh, allowing convenient travel for people moving around to different Fringe venues.

Participating Edinburgh PlusBus operators are Lothian Buses, Edinburgh Trams, Eastern Scottish, Stagecoach, Edinburgh Coach Lines. Travel on the Edinburgh tram is available between any stop in the city and up to Ingliston ‘Park&Ride’.

However, some services run by participating operators are not included: Edinburgh Trams: between Ingliston & Edinburgh Airport. Lothian Buses: any part of Airlink 100; Skylink 200 & 300 between Ingliston & Edinburgh Airport. Special services, NightBus Services, Lothian Country, East Coast Buses & Edinburgh Bus Tours.

As well as Fringe events, public transport can take passengers to other attractions in Edinburgh, including:

• the Royal Yacht Britannia, with five decks, and offering the experience of life during Royal service on board Queen Elizabeth II’s former floating palace
• the National Gallery of Modern Art, including artist residencies, commissions, exhibitions, talks, film screenings, and workshops
• the Royal Botanic Gardens, set in over seventy acres of landscape, and featuring plants from around the world, the Living Collection, and panoramic views of the city.

Lumo, which is the operating name of FirstGroup between London and Scotland, has supported the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in other ways, including hosting Fringe-themed performances onboard two of its train carriages travelling from Newcastle to Edinburgh at its ‘Culture Train Live’ evening in June. The operator has also supported the ‘Keep It Fringe’ Fund, which provides bursaries to artists and performers who lack other resources: Lumo donated return tickets to all bursary recipients.
