The Lynton and Barnstaple Railway has announced that Hunslet ‘Russell‘ is to visit them for their Autumn Steam Gala in September.
Russell visits thanks to its home railway, The Welsh Highland Heritage Railway in Porthmadog.
Since returning to steam in 2014, Russell has become a firm favourite at its home railway, and recently ventured to Dinas and Porthmadog as part of the Welsh Highland Centenary Celebrations.
The gala is set to take place on the 23rd and 24th September will feature all locomotives in steam, a 7.25″ gauge railway in operation along with a garden railway and classic vehicles.

Unfortunately, Russell is currently out of service and will not be visiting Woody Bay in 2023. Welsh Pony was due to replace Russell, but now we have the bonus of TWO visiting Engines – Lilla and Hugh Napier – courtesy of Ffestiniog Railway
It would be so nice to see them proceed beyong Parracombe but they seem to be stuck.
