An extra morning service is to run on the Severn Valley Railway on summer Saturdays from later this month.
On Saturdays from 22nd July to 2nd September, a diesel locomotive and two carriages will form the 10:30 service from Bridgnorth to Highley, where it will arrive at 11:05.
The train will also call at Hampton Loade as part of the enhanced Timetable C at 10:55.
This will mean that passengers on the train can change at Hampton Loade for the first northbound steam service.
Unfortunately, due to operational reasons, the stock from the train will return to Bridgnorth empty. This is because the ‘path’ for the train to return to base will change times due to unadvertised traffic requirements.
SVR Holdings’ managing director Jonathan ‘Gus’ Dunster said: “The additional train will enable passengers to be ‘out’ on the line earlier in the day, if starting their day at Bridgnorth, and so enhance their experience while they are with us. It will run on Saturdays only because this is our busiest day of the week, and we are expecting higher numbers during the peak summer season.
“We hope that it will successfully attract enough passengers to join the Railway at Bridgnorth to cover its costs and, importantly in view of the Railway’s financial situation, also make some additional profit. If this timetable proves popular, we will look to add it on other dates.”
