ScotRail supports Edinburgh Festivals with thousands of extra seats and later trains

ScotRail has revealed that it will support the world-renowned Festivals this August with more services featuring increased seating capacity, late-night trains and extra-late-night trains when most required.

The festival will take place from Friday the 4th of August to Monday the 28th of August and as usual, will see thousands of people attend a vast array of shows across 250 venues in Edinburgh.

The additional services will see festivalgoers’ journey supported to and from shows, including extra late-night trains for routes heading out of the city.

Late Night Services :

  • From the 4th to the 27th of August, late-night services will be in operation from Edinburgh Waverley to Glasgow Queen Street via
  • On Fridays from the 4th to the 25th of August, late-night services will operate from Edinburgh to Glasgow Queen Street Low Level via Bathgate & Airdrie, Dundee, , and .
  • On Saturdays from the 5th to the 26th of August, late-night services will operate to Dundee, and also to Glasgow Queen Street Low Level via Bathgate and Airdrie.
  • From Friday the 4th to Sunday the 13th of August, late-night services will operate from North Berwick to Edinburgh in order to support return travel from the ‘Fringe by the Sea’
  • On Sundays from the 6th to the 27th of August, an extra late-night service will operate from Edinburgh to North Berwick.

has organised hundreds of extra carriages to support the Edinburgh Festival, which will create thousands of additional seats for times when they are most needed.

Anyone travelling during the Edinburgh Festivals is advised to plan their travel ahead of making a journey by clicking here. Advice is also given to customers to buy tickets in advance, using the ScotRail apps mTickets system.

David Simpson, ScotRail Service Delivery Director, said:

“To support the event, we’ve made significant enhancements to our services. We’ll be providing more trains, including late-night services, to accommodate the increased demand during this vibrant period, and we’ve added tens of thousands of extra seats at the times when they are needed the most.”

The mTicket system, available on the ScotRail app, offers a convenient way to secure your tickets and download them straight to your mobile phone, avoiding any unnecessary queues on the day.”
