Due to RMT strike action, Avanti West Coast says it will operate a reduced timetable on the 20th and 22nd July.
The strike action will result in a less frequent service and for shorter hours than usual.
Avanti says it will operate one train per hour from London Euston to Manchester, Preston and Liverpool. A limited service will operate to Glasgow.
Trains to Liverpool will travel via the West Midlands calling at Coventry, Birmingham International, Birmingham New Street and Wolverhampton – this is due to engineering work between Rugby and Stafford.
The reduced timetable will mean North Wales, Shrewsbury, Chester, Blackpool North and Edinburgh will have no Avanti services.
Andy Mellors, Managing Director at Avanti West Coast, said: “We’re sorry our customers will face further disruption to their journeys when RMT members go on strike in a week that sees the start of the school holidays, as well as The Open Championship at the Royal Liverpool Golf Club and the fourth test match in The Ashes at Old Trafford.
“With planned upgrade work taking place during this latest action, we’ll be operating a reduced timetable, so all our customers should plan ahead, check before they travel and be aware of their last train home. We’d like to thank our customers for their continued patience and understanding during this time.
“Any customers with tickets for 20 or 22 July can make their journey on alternative days or claim a full refund.”

Two things. Since when did Avanti go to Edinburgh, it’s an LNER station. The other thing is Mick Lynch is not bothered about ruining people’s travel plans. He and his cronies (including my Uncle) want to bring the Govt and the country to its knees.
My Uncle has told me strikes will still be going next year until the general election.
Hi Gordon,
They have run to Edinburgh for a while, their route map is here https://www.avantiwestcoast.co.uk/where-we-go/our-routes/our-route-map
Thankyou Vikki, that is one thing I never knew. I now stand corrected.
